Meet Dawn Noel – star of salsa, sitcoms and starships

JOH_0690BDawn Noel may well be the biggest star you’ve never heard of – multi-talented (to say the least) and surely set to become a familiar name before long.

On stage and in front of the camera, she’s an actress, dancer, and model, while behind the scenes she is equally accomplished as a writer, producer, and even a personal trainer.

Born in Philadelphia, but now based in LA, Dawn has danced with some of pop music’s biggest stars, including Beyonce, Jennifer Lopez, Madonna, and others that younger, cooler people will be familiar with.

On TV, she’s been in huge shows such as NCIS and Glee, and on the big screen you may have spotted her in Enchanted or The Wackness, or as one of the stars of My Normal.MV5BMTUyMDExNzYxMV5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwNjA1MTYwNA@@._V1__SX1217_SY861_

More recently, she has produced and starred in a stunning short film, 22 Years, which as I write (March 2016) is scooping up awards as it tours the festivals.

And she’s one of the stars of a potentially huge scifi project too.

Here’s my checklist of why you should get to know Dawn Noel:

TV and film

As an actress, Dawn’s TV credits include global hits such as Glee, NCIS, and NCIS LA. She is also a star of the web-based sitcom Sistah Did What? which is getting laughs and accolades around the festivals. She has appeared in many big screen productions, and has recently added writing and producing to her film and TV roles.

Dancing

Dawn began performing as a dancer, initially with the Koresh Dance Company and Ballet Hispanico, and when she moved to New York City, she was hired by both the NYC and Metropolitan Opera Ballets. Then came hit Broadway shows, including The Lion King, In The Heights, and Fame; and live performances and videos with major music acts including Jennifer Lopez, Mariah Carey, Madonna, Kelly Rowland, and Beyonce,

Modelling and training

It’s well-known that dancers have to be in fantastic condition, and Dawn puts her physical talents to additional use as a personal trainer, and combines her physique and her stunning looks for modelling assignments. She has also featured in several Dancing With The Stars training videos.

22 Years

Dawn is the star and producer of this superb short film. She plays Avi, a waitress on the verge of getting into law school, whose life is turned upside down, when her father – who walked out on her as a child – renews contact after 22 years. It’s gripping, engaging, and ultimately very moving. Understandably it’s picking up praise and awards at the festivals as I write (March 2016).

Project Abaddon: Rise of the Destroyer™® (working title) – coming in 2017

Dawn stars as determined, bold and kick-ass Lt Roslyn “Roz” Chavez, one of the leading figures in this impressive and ambitious sci-fi feature film franchise set in our distant future (2685). Project Abaddon™® is an epic new sci-fi feature film trilogy with a host of industry professionals both on and off camera. Abaddon features a rich diversity, lack of sexual tone, broad cast of characters from various ethnicities coupled with both hidden and physical disabilities that are an integral part of what makes up the crew.

This echoes the original vision of what the late Gene Roddenberry meant for Star Trek. It promises to be epic featuring Emmy, British and Israeli award winners and will be something quite special. As I write this (March 2016), I’m hoping to have more about this project on a post in the future (the much nearer future than the one Project Abaddon: Rise of the Destroyer™® is set in). Stay tuned as this new Journey Begins…

All in all, it’s an incredible record of achievement for someone still relatively early in her career. And, if you explore the links, you’ll see this post barely scratches the surface. The words ‘talented’ and ‘versatile’ seem inadequate.

I’m sure we’ll see and hear much more of Dawn Noel – in a salsa, sitcom or starship. Or who knows what else?
